Igniting the entrepreneurship zeal among hundreds of young minds across the country, i5 summit is a platform that brings together industry stalwarts and start-up enthusiasts. Some of the most sought-after events are Get Funded, Social Entrepreneur and Startup Expo wherein the start-ups pitch their business ideas to investors and receive funding offers, sometimes up to INR 2 crores. The Chai PeCharcha Session fosters network building through direct and informal interactions of students with established entrepreneurs. Setting the event apart from the rest is the excellent line up of speakers and investors. Mr Stefan Haves (Worldwide Director Cirque, Theatre & Cinema), Dr B.R. Shetty (Founder and Chairman, NMC Healthcare BRS Ventures), Mr AnandGovindaluri (Founder & CEO Govin Capital, Singapore), Mr Rajesh Balpande (Co-Founder, BookMyShow), Mr Sandeep Agarwal (Founder and CEO, Shopclues and Droom), Mr Dharmil Seth (Co-Founder, Co-Founder, Pharmeasy), Mr BalajiViswanathan (CEO, Invento Robotics) are some of the speakers of the 2018 edition of i5. The total funding raised by start-ups last year was INR 140 Million and the footfall has been over 5000. The i5 summit is the only event jointly organized by an IIM and an IIT and is undoubtedly the largest entrepreneurial event of Central India. i5 which stands for Ideate, Innovate, Inspire, Induce, Invest is an idea that only gets bigger and better!

The start-up expo was held on the first day of the summit. Arrangements were made for displaying the plethora of products and services offered by the start-ups present. These products ranged from customized footwear to pharma and from eco friendly utensils to IoT. The entire event was lauded as the only expo in Central India to be held on this scale and how it was helping in providing a platform to budding entrepreneurs to express their ideas by both regional and national media houses.
ENTREPRENEURSHIP WORKSHOP (Mr. K. Vaitheeswaran)
On the first day of the summit, an Entrepreneurship Workshop was conducted by Mr. K. Vaitheeswaran, Co-Founder, Fabmart, Indiaplaza. He used his vast experience in the area of entrepreneurship to provide invaluable, profound advice to the budding entrepreneurs present. He encouraged the participants to enhance their skills as entrepreneurs and increase the scope of the solutions they were offering through their products and services. “Don't raise money to fund losses, raise money to fund growth”, advised Mr K. Vaitheeswaran.
The first day also witnessed a panel discussion with a group of esteemed panellists: Mr. Saurabh Garg, NoBroker, Mr. S. Vaitheeswaran, MD & CEO, Manipal Education, Dr. Akhil Prasad, Director and Company Secretary, Boeing India and Mr. K Vaitheeswaran, author of 'Failing to Succeed”. The topic for the panel discussion was “Accelerating the growth of Indian start-ups to compete at an international level.”
The speaker series consisted of eminent speakers from the highest rungs of the corporate world discussing their success stories and how entrepreneurs today could strive for such success. The series began with a talk by Mr. Rajesh Balpande, Founder of BookMyShow. Thereafter, Mr. Ankit Doshi took the stage. He talked briefly about his student life at IIM Indore, his journey and struggles when starting InsideIIM as a blog in 2011.
GetFunded is the flagship event of the i5 Summit. It took place on the second day of the summit. Here, startups, selected after passing a preliminary round, got the opportunity to pitch their business ideas and seek funding from the investors present. The event was graced by distinguished investors and the startups which participated, operated in diverse domains like healthcare, agriculture, tourism, beverages, sanitation and so on.
CHAI PE CHARCHA
Chai pe charcha is the networking event of the summit, designed specifically for startups and entrepreneurs, where they get to interact with renowned investors. It is like an informal round where investors and entrepreneurs get into deeper conversations, and entrepreneurs can get valuable insights and suggestions about their startups. It also gives startups, a golden opportunity to build contacts with renowned investors and get exposure to their industrial expertise. The investors and experts, included the likes of Subrata Mitra of Accel Partners, Balaji Vishwananthan, Bala GIrisaballa and so on. The entrepreneurs were highly satisfied after their fruitful discussions with the investors.
MARKETING WORKSHOP (MullenLowe Lintas Group)
A marketing workshop was also organized for the participants, on the first day of the summit, conducted by Mullen Lowe Lintas group, an Indian advertising and marketing communications company headquartered in Mumbai. Here the participants got to know about contemporary marketing trends, and how companies were getting involved in various innovative marketing techniques. It revolved around the various nuances of marketing and its increasing significance in this fast-paced world.
Startup Workshop by Ah! Ventures
A Startup workshop, was organized on Day 2 of the summit, by Ah! Ventures, an angel investment firm. This workshop was aimed at giving an insight to the participants about the various steps involved in securing funding for business ideas and also to make them well-versed with various financial aspects related to a startup. It stressed the importance of storytelling. It also talked about the various nuances of fund raising. The workshop was attended by more than 70 participants.
